 Dear Parents and Students,

We got off to a flying start in our Taekwondo Training.  All new students have been working on three to five basic stances, kicks and blocking techniques. At this point all White Belts and new students (with the exception of grade K) are learning how to count to 10 in Korean, the five tenets of Taekwondo, Taekwondo Code,  the four first turns in “Kicho Il Bo” (basic form #1), Block & Punch 1-10 and the five basic kicks and punches.

I would like to thank the parents of grade K students for teaching your children to tie their belts and shoelaces. When these skills are fully mastered by all students, we can train without interruptions and delays.  All beginners and grade K* students have been introduced to the following:

*Bow

*Making a fist

90° and 180° turns

*Line-up

*Straight Punch

*Front Snap Kick

*Attention Stance (Chareyot)

*Side Punch

Roundhouse Kick

*Joonbe stance       

45° Punch

Stretch Kick

*Horse Riding stance

Crescent Kicks

SPLITS CLUB

Congratulations to our 3rd grade students, Tjing-Tong Tse and Avalon Goldwasser for for earning their Full Split Club patches.

 

All students received their 130 page Taekwondo manual on September 14 and 15, 2001. This manual is used as a text book and reference guide for home practice of techniques, history, Korean vocabulary, Taekwondo codes of ethics, testing and rank promotion requirements.

 Please Note:    

The lower grade students will need their parents’ help in studying the background information and learning the Taekwondo school rules.

 

Goals for This Month

 K-8      Learn to tie your belt correctly.

K-8            Execute the following stances: Attention, Ready Motion (Joonbe), Horse Riding Stance, Kicking Stance, and Front Stance K-8 Strengthen ankles & using the ball of the foot (see page 57).

K-8      Making and keeping a correct fist (see page 50).

K-8      Counting in Korean (see page 124).

Kindergarten count to 5, all other white belts, count to 10. 

1-8       Master your vocabulary and all forms from White belt to your current Belt level.

 Please note: New vocabulary has been added to several belt requirements.

n order to compete at the National Level the student must first qualify for the State Team by winning either a gold, silver, or bronze medal at the official State Championships. Each State will send their top three competitors to compete for a national title at the Junior Olympics.
