Newsletter     February  2001      Academic Taekwondo

Dear Parents and Students,

We have successfully reached the half point of the school year 2000-2001 training. All students, in general, are right on the schedule in learning and refining their techniques and other requirements. I am especially proud of all the White Belt students’ achievements at the Weiss School.

The beginner level students have been introduced to some sliding, jumping, and turning kicks, as they continue to learn and refine the three basic forms of “Kitcho IL Bo”, “Ee Bo” and “Sam Bo”.

Kindergarten, and other White Belts (without stripes) are working on the stances, turns and other moves on Kitcho IL Bo only.

All color belts continue to study their respective Taegeuk forms, hand and kicking combinations, and other belt level requirements, including Taekwondo terminology.

Homework

Each time your child climbs up in the Taekwondo ranks, the required terminology and vocabulary, for that belt level, is automatically assigned as required homework.  Students should master their new vocabulary within three weeks from their promotions. New forms and combinations should be known in less than 8 classes, with the exception of the “Little Tigers” (K-1).  Naturally, all belt level requirements below the current rank must be mastered as well.

 After-School Taekwondo

I would like to extend my congratulations to Cameron Birkestrand and Ben Ward for completing their leadership training classes during the past 9 weeks.

Both fine gentlemen volunteered their time to help our beginner level Taekwondo students at our Tuesday After-School Taekwondo Classes.

Our current / new trainees are:

Tatsuaki and Hidemi Hayashi             Tuesdays

Sunray Martina and Franky Suriano   Wednesdays

Joseph Greene                                   Tuesdays & Wednesdays

Isrel Kapnick                                       Thursdays

The third session Tuesday After-School Taekwondo classes are filled. Only one or two spaces are available in the Wednesday’s intermediate level class. Enrollments for the fourth session are being accepted now.
