Newsletter     June  2001      Academic Taekwondo

Dear Parents and Students,

Looking back at the 2000-2001 school year, we can be very proud of our many accomplishments. The students made remarkable records, topping all previous years, in areas of technique development, responsibility, competition arenas, teamwork, and leadership.

Our final promotion graduation for this school year took place on Saturday, May 19, 2001.  Nearly 100 students advanced to a new belt level, five of whom achieved their first Taekwondo long term goal of a Black Belt. I am proud to present (right) our five newest Junior Black Belts, Tatsuaki Hayashi, Hidemi Hayashi (our school’s youngest Black Belt), Cameron Birkestrand, Franky Suriano, and Sunray Martina.  Also pictured: Erin Link and Ben Ward who took their 1st Poom Maintenance tests, and Isrel Kapnick, 3rd degree black belt assistant instructor and a Weiss School alumni. The new Black Belts were officially sworn in and fingerprinted at our year-end Awards Programs on June 3rd, 2001.

More Junior Black Belts

Eight other students were awarded Probationary Black Belt ranks. At this belt level the students’ performance level is evaluated during a  6-9 months minimum period of continuous training. They are required to demonstrate advanced leadership skills, and substantial refinement of all learned techniques. In addition to the expected technical development andprom05_19_01.JPG (33837 bytes) leadership skills, the students are evaluated, on a daily basis for respect, do-jang etiquette, responsibility,  and training habits.
