Newsletter     May  2001      Academic Taekwondo

Dear Parents and Students,

wpe3.jpg (13342 bytes)I would like to begin this newsletter with my warmest congratulations to our 2001 Competition Team for showing excellence both in technical skills and comradeship.  Everyone had a good time, made new friends, and got to know their team mates and their families better.

Several students and Masters from other schools commented on our strong team spirit and camaraderie during our April 20-21, 2001 stay  in Sarasota, FL.

The winners (click link on left) will represent the State of Florida at the 21st U.S. Junior Olympic Taekwondo Championships on July 2-7, 2001.

THANK YOU

I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Mrs. Kate Crouse for taking the initiative to establish the Taekwondo Booster club, and for making those wonderful T-shirts available for our participants in such a short time.

….. We’re making history

There aren’t enough words to express the gratitude and admiration I feel to Dr. Rosemary Colarulli for her assistance in  making my life’s Taekwondo goals and dreams come true.  My Academic TaekwondoTM curriculum was included in the FCIS, evaluations as a stand-alone school subject (not just part of a P.E. program or other activity). The academic Taekwondo program, including my study manual for school aged children, was granted full accreditation on April 18, 2001!

Naturally, we all have to raise our hats for Mrs. Elisabeth Weiss, as well, for her pioneering spirit and her courage to have included Taekwondo as a non-elective subject in the school’s curriculum for the past 12 years.

We were the first school in the nation to offer Taekwondo as part of the curriculum --- We now run the first accredited academic Taekwondo program in the nation (for grades K-8)!
