March 2000

Academic Taekwondo

Dear Parents and Students,

Congratulations to our school's 17-member Competition Team for your outstanding achievements at the AAT Mini Tournament, held in Lantana, on February 26, 2000.

Our first time competitors learned a great deal about tournament procedures. The most important lesson was that participating and doing your very best, makes you a winner.

Many new personal records were made at this tournament. Hidemi and Suneel gathered their courage to compete in Black Belt divisions and each received first places.  I am very proud of all of our students for pushing themselves to new levels of training.

Demo Team

Congratulations are also in order for our 23-member Junior Demonstration Team for their wonderful performances at the Wynnebrook Elementary school on March 3rd.

……….Look for details and pictures about our outstanding Demonstration in our next newsletter!

Thank You

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the “Taekwondo Moms” for providing transportation to our Wynnebrook Elementary School Demonstration on March 3rd, 2000.

Special Thanks to Dr. Jeannie Williard for her extensive support in helping out at all of our practices and at the demonstration as well.  The Team, and myself, extend our gratitude to Mrs. Kate Crouse for supplying us with drinks and a tasty lunch.

New Belts

On March 4th, sixty students were promoted to a higher rank. Congratulations to all students for reaching your goals.

I would like to extend my warmest thanks to our Black Belt Examiners:

Instructors Peter Gutauskas, Coastal Taekwondo; Zach Trider, Academic Taekwondo; Dr. Jean Williard and Dr. Donald Link, both from Harmony Taekwondo.

Homework

Each time your child climbs up in the Taekwondo ranks, the required terminology and vocabulary, for that belt level, is automatically assigned as required homework.  Students should master their new vocabulary within three weeks from their promotions. New forms and combinations should be known in 8 classes, or less, with the exception of the “Little Tigers” (K-1).  The rest of the time, within that grading period, will be used to refine all details and to learn one-step sparring, grab sparring, knife defense and other new requirements.  Naturally, all belt level requirements below the current rank must be reviewed and mastered as well.

Unified Youth Sports Festival

The Palm Beach County Sports Institute is organizing its annual Unified Youth Sports Festival to be held at the Dwyer High School on Saturday,  April 15.  This full day event will feature demonstrations and sports clinics of 23 different sports, giving you a great opportunity to try out and familiarize yourself with a brand new sport.  Taekwondo clinics and demonstrations will be run throughout the day. Our demonstration team (selected members) will give performances at the opening ceremony and at the clinics.  An estimated 1,000 Palm Beach County children, ages 5-17, is expected to participate.

Each participant will receive a Unified Youth Sports T-shirt, a custom cast medal (with ribbon), and a collector's pin from each of the sports he/she participated in.  All this for a $15 participation fee.

After-School Taekwondo

The fourth session (April 3 - May 26) After-School Taekwondo classes for White, Yellow and Orange Belts have been filled. Very few spots are available in the intermediate and advanced belt classes.
