Master Powell has served the Taekwondo community in the Palm Beaches since 1985. 

She is the founder and president of the Academic Taekwondo®, the curriculum of which, has been taught as a required school subject at elementary and middle school levels (grades K-8) for over 17 years. 

Master Powell's Academic Taekwondo® Program was officially accredited as a stand-alone non-elective subject by the prestigious  FCIS (member of NAIS)  in the spring of 2001.  In the spring 2006, the FCIS expressed that they would recommend adding the Academic Taekwondo Program to member schools.

Master Powell has organized and /or participated in over 200 Taekwondo demonstrations and clinics, such as the Official 1996 Olympic Torch Run Festivities, South Florida Fair, Sun-Fest, Shakespeare Festival, Cities of West Palm Beach, Lake Worth, and Boca Raton,  numerous Palm Beach County Schools, Unified Youth Festival, etc.

Officiated as an appointed Referee at State, National and International Taekwondo Championships, including US National Championships, US National Jr. Olympics, US Armed Forces, WTF International Masters Games, and Pan-American Open Championships.
